An organization committed to the environment.
Established in 2003–04 and registered in 2006, CEMO is a conduit for everyone passionate about ecological conservation in India.
From a sapling in 2003 to an evergreen tree.
The Centre for Ecological Movement was founded under the leadership of Dr. Ajit Kumar Banerjee (IFoS), renowned as the Father of Social Forestry in India, and later spearheaded by Mrs. Purnima Dutta and her team of dedicated eco-activists.
CEMO acts as a strong advocate for the planet, its troubled wildlife, and the younger generation striving for a more promising tomorrow. We are passionate about a greener future, educating the public, and personal commitments to conservation.
A vital part of our work has been with urban, suburban and rural schools across Bengal — in fact, our school projects have been our best success story. Today CEMO is also a platform for the NGOs and NGIs who share our cause.
A dream of change — a green, safe and dignified world.
We dream of a day when lush green forests again cover our hills and plains; when animals are no longer victims of brutality or cold apathy; when all creatures great and small live with pride and dignity.
A world safe, happy, clean and green — for the old, the young, the newborn and the unborn. CEMO draws its spirit from that belief, echoed in Louis MacNeice’s poem Prayer Before Birth.
CEMO pledges to:
- Raise our voice against the disaster of global warming.
- Stop the wilful destruction of flora and fauna in the forests of India.
- Educate the children of today and the citizens of tomorrow.
- Build a personal commitment to the cause of the environment.
Not a distant institution — a movement
Two decades of steady, on-the-ground work has taught us how change really takes root.
